The New Carbon Economy Consortium (NCEC), a collaboration of leading universities, national labs, financiers, NGOs, and industry partners advancing a carbon‑conscious future, will convene its 2026 Annual Meeting to accelerate pathways for large‑scale carbon removal deployment and a just transition toward a negative‑emissions economy.

• Co-Chair Erin Burns featured in MIT Technology Review quoted on carbon removal, “Private-sector purchases will never get us there,” says Erin Burns, executive director of Carbon180, a nonprofit that advocates for the removal and reuse of carbon dioxide. “We need policy; it has to be policy.” HERE. 

• Member Carbon180 launches 2025 Annual Report HERE. 

• Climeworks Solutions: Swiss direct air capture pioneer Climeworks launched an expanded compliance-ready carbon removal portfolio offering, targeting CORSIA, Paris Agreement Article 6.2 mechanisms, and the EU's Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming Certification Framework. The announcement reflects the decisive shift in CDR demand from voluntary corporate commitments to policy-driven compliance obligations, as regulated markets around the world come online HERE.

• MIT, Carbon Herald: A new MIT study found that carbon credit prices on voluntary markets reflect buyer preferences, including co-benefits such as biodiversity and local community impact, far more than the actual climate value of the removal delivered HERE. 

• Pew: Kenya Launches National Plan to Protect Blue Carbon Ecosystems. At the Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa, the country unveiled a plan to conserve and restore the mangroves and seagrasses that protect its coast and communities HERE. 

• Yale News: Yale researchers have developed a new, less expensive method for remediating “forever chemicals” from farmlands that would also remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere HERE.

• Isometric: Carbon removal registry and certification body Isometric certified its new Improved Soil Management Protocol, raising the quality bar for soil-based CDR. The protocol requires direct soil sampling, full greenhouse gas accounting, and a minimum 20% revenue share for enrolled landowners. Three project developers have already registered under the protocol: Great Yellow in the UK, Cultivo across U.S. grasslands, and HGX working with more than 1,000 U.S. farmers across 3 million acres of farmland HERE. 

• Carbon Herald: Companies Creating Change (C3), in partnership with HSBC, launched the C3 Nature Impact Accelerator to back nature-based solution companies across the Middle East, North Africa, Turkiye, and Southeast Asia. The programme directly targets carbon removal and ecosystem restoration entrepreneurs in regions where project development capacity is currently limited, building the pipeline of Global South CDR projects needed to meet international climate targets HERE. 

• ScienceDirect: A biogenic life cycle approach towards estimating the carbon intensity of wool production: Evidence from six Australian case studies HERE. 

• Nature: Global assessment shows blue carbon wealth dominated by ocean processes and evenly distributed across countries HERE. 

•  Springer Nature: A study calls for more “inclusive and transformative” youth participation in climate assemblies, with involvement currently “consultative in nature” HERE. 

• Frontiers in Climate: Regional Ocean dynamics regulate the efficiency of “ocean alkalinity enhancement" as a means of CDR” HERE.

• Trellis: Tesla sets net-zero target for first time HERE.

• HEATMAP: Climate Tech Exclusive: Intertia’s Roadmap to Commercialize Laser Fusion HERE. 

• Trellis: Microsoft adjusts climate agenda as emissions leap. The company’s carbon footprint expanded 25% in its 2025 fiscal year, surpassing double digit increases at Amazon and Google HERE.
